On the 1st of october 2010 Central school had a visit from the Highlands and Islands fire brigade, as part of our safety week. They told us about fire safety in and about the home. They said that every home should have at least 1 smoke dectector. They told us lots of things about how to keep safe. Especially STOP,DROP,ROLL!!!!!!!! .If some one is on fire they will panic so shout at them “STOP,DROP,ROLL!” If you say this they will have a chance of surviving or at least calming down the flames. After that he said that two teachers could come up and put on some of the equipment .The chosen teachers were Mrs.Cameron and Mrs.Fraser .Miss Kelly and Miss Patience had to dress up in the infant assembly. They looked really silly!
After the assembly we saw every part of the fire truck. After us the infants had their assembly which was more understadable for their age. The nursery got to fire the hoses . thank you for the visit highlands and islands fire brigade.

This week is safetyweek and today is water safety. And at assembly a coast guard talked to us about the dangers of water and the hazards. First he talked to us about where the most dangerous places to be at the river, sea or ocean and what to do if you see someone in the water, if someone is in the water you should find something with air in it like a football and they can lean on it, a bottle if you can find one. And also he told us about the right size life jackets and all the flags at the beach that you might see. A black and white flag mean only boats or surfers can enter the beach, a red flag means that no one can enter or swim in the beach.

On Tuesday afternoon Fiona Bing came in to talk to the p6s and the p7 about the dangers of smoking. She explained to us that smoking kills more people than alcohol. She explained that a 20 a day smoker takes in 500mg of tar each day.
We found the workshop quite shocking but it gave us lots to think about.

On Wednesday 29th of September 2010 Miss Kelly took an assembly on Internet safety for the p4′s-p7′s. Miss Kelly showed us a video clip of a girl who put alot of personal things on the Internet. It showed us the danger of putting our profile pictures of ourselfs in our school uniform. By putting her address a man found out where she lived and came to vist her house. The video showed us that we need to be careful of what we put on the Internet. Later on Miss Kelly came to the P7′s and P7′s from P6/7′s class. Miss Kelly took the girls first to show us a video clip of a true story about a girl called Clare who met a man on the Internet who made her feel special and then it went too far, but she did the right thing in the end and reported what had happpend. The clip really shocked us.

On 20th of September some of the P7s went to Lagganlia. The p7s had to go in at ten to nine, after we all checked in and put our phones in we had to take our heavy luggage to the bus. When we finally got on the bus all the boys started singing the ‘Wheels on the Bus’. One pupil commented “the bus trip was so fun and I can’t wait to see my instructor”. The instructors were Claire, Rafael and Nick. Some of the activities were tree climbing, sailing, skiing, archery, mountain biking and lots more. At the end of Lagganlia we had a party (it was the best).
Overall the whole trip was an amazing experience and we had the time of our lives. We are now back at school ready to use our new found skills in the classroom.
